Special Events
A number of hallmark special events are a key part of the Club's events calendar. The major events are:
- Australian Food Media Awards. Now recognised as the "Oscars" of the food media, a Food Media Club sub-committee organises the prestigious biennial Australian Food Media Awards, which celebrate excellence in all sectors of the food media. The Awards program is the Club's highest profile activity, attracting hundreds of submissions in more than 20 categories, with an international and Australian panel of judges who are all leaders in their fields. The Awards were inaugurated in 1995 and are now recognised as the food industry's most coveted accolades.
- Annual General Meeting. Each year, members gather for the Annual General Meeting at which elections are held for office bearers. The President is also directly elected by the membership.
- Hall of Fame. This honour, awarded only seven times to date, recognises the outstanding contribution of individuals to the Club, its next generation and the world of food and wine .
- Food Forum. For the decade between 1990 and 2000, the Club organised a biennial two-day forum with an extensive line-up of Australian and international speakers. Instead of offering a two-day conference, the Club now offers regular workshops and seminars throughout the year, enabling it to be more responsive to industry issues and member requests .
Bi-monthly Newsletter and Website
Two channels of communication produced by the Club for its members are a bi-monthly newsletter, FMCA Update , and a comprehensive website. Access to both presents key member benefits. The newsletter is distributed exclusively to members and is an effective medium for targeting consumer and trade food media, and associated industry. Selected elements of the website are made available to the public.
Social and Charity Events
The Club's end-of-year Christmas party has become established as the organisation's major charity event. Each year, members and their guests gather in the spirit of giving and donate gifts to the Club's nominated charity, Barnardos .
Discounted Products and Services from Partner Organisations
Special discounts are another benefit of membership of the Food Media Club. These are provided by a range of companies, including appliance manufacturers and equipment retailers, and various service providers .
